When all the generations had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.
This verse has a very important lesson. It speaks of a generation who did not know the Lord. Why do you think they didn't know the Lord? They were not taught. They didn't have the blessing of seeing the works of the Lord as their ancestors did, and if their parents and grandparents did not share these stories with them, of course they would not know.
As a child, I remember prayers being said, Christmas being celebrated for its true meaning, and stories of the Bible being told in our classrooms. We no longer have that benefit. I'm not saying that our children should be taught about their faith in schools. I just want to point out that we no longer have that benefit, so the responsibility falls solely on the church and the home. I believe learning and understanding the Scriptures is, often times, best learned under the shepherding of a pastor, but parents bare the sole responsibility of teaching and molding their children's faith. Take time to study the Scriptures and put them into practice in your daily life.
As our world slowly turns away from the Lord, remember that generations to come will need to know of Jesus' love and saving grace. The greatest thing you can do for your children is to give the them the strong foundation of Jesus so that they may weather the many storms to come.
