Junior~Oh How You've Grown

I just wanted to update everyone on how Junior is doing. For those of you who don't know who Junior is, he is a kitten that my son rescued out of the mouths of some dogs this past summer. Here is the beginning of his story, if you want to understand his beginnings with our family.
This picture above shows Junior when we first got him. He was sick with runny eyes and nose. Emaciated but with a pot belly indicating lots of worms. His gums and corners of his eyes were white indicating anemia. This was partly due to the worms, but he was also severely infested with fleas. You can see the tell-tell signs of his lack of nutrition and unhealthy conditions by the faded color and coarse texture of his coat too.
This photo was taken about a month later. We treated him for fleas, worms, a head cold, and gave him his first vaccines. You can see that he feels much better by the brightness in his eyes and the healthier looking coat.
Despite his health, Junior has always been the most loving and tolerant kitten I've ever seen. This picture was taken about 6 weeks ago. My son is always carrying him around or playing with him. As you can see, Junior tolerates a lot.
Junior is always into mischief. As you can see above, he's attaching my other cat, Jazzy. He also stalks and jumps on my wienie dogs when they are out for a potty break.
Well, Junior has reached a milestone...he got neutered last week. He is a happy, healthy, cat that has made a wonderful addition to our family. Here are a few more pictures that I took today...
You can see how he's grown into a beautiful cat.
I love how his markings have really deepened and become defined.
Of course, he's still up to mischief and always playing.

My Precious Pet Series: Junior Update

For this weeks post I wanted to give an update on Junior. He was rescued by my son from the mouth of dogs. He was anemic from flea infestation, wormy, and starving.
He knows it's time for his food.
     He gets very impatient.
It has been almost a month since Junior came into our lives and he has come a long way. Junior was rescued by my son, Zach, from the mouth of a dog. I have never seen so many fleas on one animal. Junior's gums were white from all the blood being drained from his little body. His belly bulged from worms, yet the rest of his body have very little if any fat. He also had a cold with mucous coming out his nose and eyes.
     Sneaking around the Pampas Grass.
He followed me down to the garden to pick tomatoes.
Hiding in the cherry tomato bush waiting for my
hand to come in to so he can attack.

The first thing I knew we had to do was get his blood built back up. Without strong blood, he wouldn't be able to fight for his life. To do this, I had to get rid of the fleas. His first flee bath produce red water with all the dead fleas. He has had two other flea baths ridding the little guy of those horrible fleas. Red Cell is a wonderful blood builder that can be purchased at just about any livestock store. To treat his cold, I gave him tetracycline through a syringe. He started to improve within 2 days and his appetite increased also. With improvement of his cold, I gave him his first vaccine. I read this is one of the best treatments for a cold. After the vaccine, all signs of his cold were gone. He has received his second vaccine this morning. Although I don't like to feed my animals canned food, I have made an exception for Junior because he needed some weight on his tiny little bones. This precious little kitty has gone from very lethargic, just lying around, to playing with bugs and harassing our other cat, Jazzy, and the dogs. He is full of mischief, hiding under the Pampas Grass waiting for his next victim to go by. He has definitely made himself at home here on King Farm.
      Greeting Jazzy.
     Following his big buddy, Jazzy.
