Favorite 5 Friday: Get Organized

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing Etsy. It's not only a wonderful way to find a fabulous gift or to get inspiration, but also to mingle with like-minded individuals.I will be promoting (blog, Etsy, Twitter) my "Favorite 5" every Friday, so contact me if you would like me to check out your items. Tell me what you think about these items or share some of your favorites...Find something you want, just click on the name. Please take time to visit these shops to see all their awesome items.

With so much going on the last few months, I have had less time to keeping things organized. There are several areas that looks like a tornado swept through. This is unusual for me as I am OCD about putting things in their place. Needless to say, it stresses me when I come upon these rumpled piles of mess. To motivate myself into taking on these task, I have went on a search for organizing ideas, and I would like to share them with you.

I love to sew and this pattern for these storage bins is fabulous! It would not be hard to adjust the size to a variety of needs, and the storage possibilities is endless.

I don't create anything with tape, but this tape organizer is adorable. Depending on the spool size, it probably could be used for ribbon storage too.

I find these little magnetic jars very intriguing. The picture shows them with spices but they could be used for storage of many small objects.

In His Word Wednesday: 2 Corinthians 2:15

2 Corinthians 2:15
For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

Have you ever thought about your sense of smell. All it takes is a sniff to determine what it is we are smelling. If I covered your eyes and put a cantelope in front of you, you would know it's a cantelope because the smell. A cantelope smells like a cantelope, just as an apple smells like an apple. Get where I'm going?

Anyway, the above verse states we are the fragrance of Christ. For believers Christ lives in you, therefore you have the fragrance of Christ. We are among other believers and also nonbelievers. It goes on in verse 16 about how others will handle our aroma. As you live your daily life in Christ, some will hate you because of your Christ-like aroma, while others will want to know how they can get the same scent you have. How we live our daily life in front of others is very important.

So I ask you, what fragrance are you leaving behind?

Tutorials: Great Summer Projects

How am I keeping cool in this southern heat? I have been searching for fun projects, and then spending time in our air conditioned loft behind my sewing machine.
I love skimming some of my favorite blogs and finding fun tutorials. Although I have many I would like to share, I picked out these four that I think are easy, useful projects for the summer. I hope you bookmark in your "must do" project section. As your eyes run over these, let your mind be searching all the great fabrics you could use to make these projects...

This "Grab and Go Traveler" is a wonderful way for the kids to carry all their essentials on the go. It folds with handles for easy carrying, and then hangs on the back of a seat for accessibility. What a great way for your kids to fight boredom on those long trips.

This "Flow Shop Pincushion" can be used to brighten up any sewing room. It would make a great gift for that sewing friend too. What a great way to use up all those fabric scraps.

I simply love this "Ready-Set-Go Round Travel Bag." I have 3 friends that are having babies this year, so I plan on making these in cute, whimsical fabrics, and fill them with baby goodies.

This bag would be perfect for shopping or carrying items to the beach. "Totes: Big and Small" is an easy tutorial to make a tote for your needs. Super cute and well made.

Happy summer sewing!

Favorite 5 Friday: Home Pieces

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing Etsy. I have been contemplating new decorations. My home is very rustic, with primitive cabin decor. Inside is knotted pine, high ceiling with large beams, and Australian Cypress floors. I have several barn wood cabinets, quilts, and old metal pieces. My colors are mostly barn red, black, olive green that look great, but I'm tired of them. I would love to go more shabby chic with some bright colorful pieces, but I'm not sure if they would look good with the knotted pine walls. This weeks finds pieces that I would like to have for my home.

This wonderful Canterbury cabinet is nice to add a lovely pop of color.

In His Word Wednesday: Joshua 1:9

Joshua 1:9
Have I not commanded you ? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

In many ways, adversity is like boot camp; it is rigorous, painful, and challenging. It causes us to adopt new routines and habits as to develop aspects of our being. In all areas, we need courage to keep our balance. We need courage not only to endure times of adversity, but also to make the changes that adversity compels us to make.

Joshua knew all about adversity. Forty years of wondering in the wilderness had qualified him to understand hardship, trials, and troubles. In verses 6, 7, and 9, the Lord spoke to Joshua about courage. In these 3 verses are 3 things that require Joshua's courage:
1. Making decisions that affect other people under his leadership. (our families, employees)
2. To keep the laws and commandments, even as changes occur. (our culture is steadily steering away from God's Word)
3. To remember the Lord is with him, despite what circumstances might indicate to the contrary. (financial, family, or health problems)

Every one of us needs courage in exactly the same three areas of our lives as we face adversity.

Meet My New Hedgehogs

Several months ago, I wrote about a trip to Ohio to purchase a few more hedgehogs. I have featured my first four hedgehogs over the last few years, with their different personalities and antics. I love these litter critters. They have become a great part of my families life.

Several months ago, I wrote about a trip to Ohio (a 9 1/2 hour drive one way) to purchase more hedgehogs. These hedgehogs were chosen with specific characteristics to implement into my breeding program. First they must have be healthy, from a reputable breeder. Second, they must have an easy-going personality. Last, I consider their color.
Now I would like to introduce my knew babies...
MMF Tiberia is a beautiful champagne pinto. We call her Tibby. She is the oldest, therefore was not well adjusted to being handle. We patiently worked with her daily, getting her desensitized to being touched. She is a little shy at first, but fast to come out and explore.

MMF Barney is our adorable little male. He is a grey pinto. He looks similar to our Spike, because I like this look the best. He was a little shy, but has adjusted well. He loves to eat best of all, so food monitoring will be a must for this little guy.

FHF Pepper actually came from Illinois. She was transferred at a breeders meeting, so I could pick her up in Ohio. Her color is dark grey with pinto markings. She is the youngest of our bunch. Having a super sweet, calm personality, she's okay with whatever you want to do. This little girl has grown fast, loving her food too much.

FHF Harley is also came from Illinois. She is also a dark grey pinto. She is very active and loves wheeling. I love her split face markings.

Annabelle and Lucy had babies a couple of months ago, and I am keeping two of Lucy's babies.

KMT Fickle Pickle was the runt of the bunch, although she has caught up and passed her litter mate. I love her dark grey coloring. She has a few small pinto marking on her rump. Each time I have bred Spike and Lucy together, they have always produced 1 dark grey baby. I always say I'm going to keep one, and this one stole my heart. She is really sweet, don't let her name fool you. I just liked the sound of it.

KMT Tulip is a dark brown pinto with a few small pinto markings on her rump. She has the personality of her mom. Although she is active now because she is young, I see her easily becoming a lap hedgehog.
