Favorite 5 Friday: Amazing Talent

One of my favorite pastimes is browsing Etsy. It's not only a wonderful way to find a fabulous gift or to get inspiration, but also to mingle with like-minded individuals.
I will be promoting (blog, Etsy, Twitter) my "Favorite 5" every Friday, so contact me if you would like me to check out your items. Tell me what you think about these
items or share some of your favorites...

Find something you want, just click on the name. Please take time to visit these shops to see all their awesome items.

I love to dip my hands into all kinds of art, but some seem very intimidating. I look at some and I'm amazed at the talent. I ponder on the time, tools, and materials it takes to make a piece. Maybe these are very simple, I just don't understand the art. Anyway, here are a things I don't dare try, but just want to stand back and admire.

I love these wire structures. I found some very tiny and some really large, but this is my favorite.

I had never heard of felting till last year. A featured artist on Etsy was a feltor (not sure if that's the correct term), who made the most amazing little creatures that looked so real. I'm still not sure I understand the process, but it has me awestruck by these adorable little creations.

I love quilts and wanted to make my own wonderful quilts, so I tried it. I don't have a large sewing machine for quilting (as they are thousands of dollars), so I hand-quilted. It is a long, tedious process that requires more patience than I have. The results were beautiful and I was proud of my project, but it's not something I ever want to do again (at least not a large quilt). This experience will always cause me to stand in awe and respect the work that goes into making one of these masterpieces.

I have always loved glass items. I have a curio cabinet full of blown glass animals from Russia. When I turn the light on, the colors and textures just mesmerize me. This little lamp work frog bead caught my eye (of course it's pink and green too).

So what is amigurumi? It is a Japanese art of crocheting stuffed animals. They come in all sizes but these super tiny ones leave me speechless. How in the world does anyone crochet something this tiny with so much detail?

In His Word Wednesday: Romans 8:29

Romans 8:29
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Paul wrote that the Lord has predestined us "to be conformed to the image of His Son", but just how is he going to accomplish that? This is accomplished by revealing the truth of His likeness.

Truth can be revealed to us in many ways (listening to a sermon, song, by other believers, prayer), but spending time in His Word is the my favorite. As truth confronts us, we can do one of two things: Either we can refuse to be pushed into God's mold, or we can yield to Him and be fashioned into His likeness. We have to listen in order to comprehend and to comprehend in order to be conformed to His truth. God never speaks in order to entertain us, He speaks that we may be made like Jesus.

All of us are either in the process of resisting God's truth or in the process of being shaped by His truth. I sincerely want to be changed because I have discovered things in me that I'm ashamed of. To to be changed is not always easy, in process and understanding. A hard thing to do is admit that we need to change, and harder still is to ask God to change us. I have fell in love with this song and have made it my personal prayer. I hope you enjoy also.

Organizing My DMC Floss

Below is a picture of how I store my DMC floss. I have tried putting it on those little plastic cards and placing them on a ring, but they become an unruly mess. So I just keep them in this storage box, in which, they have become an unruly mess also.
I seen on another blog (can't remember which one) where she has a taken her floss and wound them around old fashion wooden clothes pins and then stood them up in a beautiful basket. I thought, "what a great idea!" I had some of these clothes pins but not enough. I search for but could not find any at a price I was willing to pay. So I search my house to find something I could use in place of the clothes pins. I came up with this idea...

I bought this plastic tub with a lid (things stay cleaner this way), index cards, and fine point sharpie. You also need a pair of scissors.
First, I spread all my floss out by colors. I used 2 index cards per color to keep it sturdy. I wrote the color number in the top left-hand corner, and then proceeded to wrap the floss around the cards. I left about an inch from the right side, where I place a small cut to secure the end of the thread.
Last I stored them in my box, organized by color then by number. I also added a small plastic basket to contain my scissors, pens, etc.
Unfortunately, I miss calculated how much floss I had and had to buy a bigger box...lol. But even after purchasing the second box, I came out cheeper than purchasing the clothes pins. My solution does not look as pretty, but it was easy, is functional, I don't have to dust it, and was cheap.
