In His Word Wednesday: Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Deuteronomy 10:12-13
"And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, an to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your soul."

From Genesis to Revelation, God instructs and urges His people to obey His commands and to fear His great Name. This is just two verses (of many) that I chose to share this morning.

My heart is heavy this morning with all the media on the Chick-fil-A president, Dan Cathy. I praise God he is standing on biblical principles about homosexuality. I'm praying just as God had provided protective hedges for Job, that He will also protect Dan. Dan is doing what these two verses tell us. He is keeping God's commandments. The Bible has many verses referring to homosexuality as an abomination to God. So if you believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, you will agree homosexuality is wrong.

Now I'm going to lean in another direction. I know homosexuality is wrong, but so is lying, murder, gossiping, stealing, hating...the list goes on and on. We are all born into sin, and we each have our own temptations that we struggle with. Humans categorize sins, God does not. A person that struggles with lying is no better than one who struggles with homosexuality. My struggle is with anger. When I'm faced with a frustration, my temper explodes before I think. This causes me to hurt others. The temptation to lose my temper is always a struggle, but it does get easier as I grow in Christ.

The above verses tell us to love and respect God. To serve Him and obey his commands. I believe this is exactly what Dan Cathy is doing. His business has been serving everyone (including homosexuals) with love and without prejudice, and keeping God's commandments. He is not condemning homosexuals, but he is not condoning their behavior either. This is how he believes, and as an American, should have the right to express his beliefs. Yet many are boycotting Chick-fil-A because of Dan's beliefs. I just have to ask, why is okay to agree with homosexuality, but it is considered "hate" if you disagree with it? I have seen no "hate" in his words or actions. Chick-fil-A has severed all kinds of people.

Our youth group will join in supporting Dan Cathy and His godly principles, by supporting his business. Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee suggested that if you agree with Dan Cathy, show your support with an anti-protest by eating at Chick-fil-A on August 1st (see story here). Show your love for God by encouraging one of your brothers while he is under attack.

  1. I agree. It seems like everyone in the world expects Christians to be “tolerant” of them but they are not “tolerant” of people who act on Biblical beliefs.

  2. Amen! Our sermon on Sunday was about hearing and obeying God too. :)

  3. My husband has been posting on Facebook all week in support of Chik-fil-A. Wish we had one around here to eat at!
