In His Word Wednesday: Matthew 10:34

"Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword."
Matthew 10:34

One of my husband's brothers has cancer. It is a rare cancer that started in the lining of his lungs. It has been very aggressive with no radiation/chemo therapy slowing it down. He has suffered physically with blood clots, sickness from the medications, and difficulty breathing. He has suffered mentally, with each attempt to cure the cancer failing, he realizes that he will leave behind a wife and two daughters (ages 22 and 8). Even though he knows Jesus is his Savior, he and his family question why we have to suffer in such awful ways.

I know the context of this verse and those before it, is Jesus telling His disciples that following Him will bring persecution. I'm understand that, and am not taking the verse out of context. It's just this verse also reminds me that we will suffer on this earth. Satan is still the ruler of this world. Sin is still in this world. While we are residents in this world, even as a child of the King, we will suffer in all kinds of way. Jesus died on the cross so that we will have life with Him in heaven. Yes, making Jesus your Savior will bring peace to your human hearts, One day He will bring peace to this planet, but until then, plan to endure many trials that this life will bring.

  2. I am sorry to read this.

Life hands us many troubles. So many we question Why? and there is only One with the answer For GOD knows all.

When my husband died tragically at age 43, I hurt beyond comprehension. The memories of that morning haunt me every day of my life as I see him laying there and all the blood from the gun shot. As I kneeled and begged to God for him to be alive, to somehow survive. I know that God heard my breaking heart that morning and that HE knew HE could get me through.

This doesn't make the loss any easier. Raising the kids alone was harder. But GOD got us all thru it.

GOD knows what is in store in your Brother-in-law's life and family. HE will get them thru it too.

    Prayers for your families.

  3. My prayers are with your family. My family has dealt with chronic illness for over 20 years, I know God created a perfect world but now we live in a fallen world and He never promised a life without suffering but that He would be with us and help us through it. I pray that God will surround your whole family with His presence and bring peace and comfort to your hearts and minds and that He will provide for their needs as well.

  5. Oh, I love reading this post and the responses to it. I don't pretend to know all about why but I do know God grieves with us in our sufferings - I pray your brother-in-law will see and know God's true character through all this.

  6. I lost my husband when he was 43 from pancreatic cancer. I was a 36-year-old widow with three boys. It was very hard but God was so gracious throughout the entire ordeal. I pray that God will be with your sister-in-law in a powerful way.

  7. I'm so sorry your family has to go through this. It says in His word that the Lord can turn all things for good for those who love Him. Hopefully someday we will all find the good from the things that we have to endure.

  9. Oh my heart goes out to you and your family right now. Very recently we lost a dear friend to cancer (he was a believer) so I know the heartache it brings. I'm praying that you and your family are surrounded by His love and peace at this time.

  10. It really stinks that life has to be like that.
God is in control but sometimes it does not feel like it.
