In His Word Wednesday: Isaiah 30:21

Christians sometimes approach obedience as a way of avoiding the negative consequences of disobedience. They see obedience as a burden, not as a wide road to blessings. God intended our walk of faith to be motivated by our love for Jesus Christ. Obedience is about discovering God, not about avoiding unpleasant consequences.

Isaiah 30:21
Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," Whenever you turn to the right hand and whenever your turn to the left.

When we place our trust in the omnipotence of the Lord and act on His prompting, life becomes wonderful. We need not be afraid of the future because God already knows the outcome of our obedience. We can trust in His promise that He does everything for our good.

  1. I read this...and had to comment. You hit the nail on the head for me: I'm so prone to obedience simply for the avoidance of punishment...yet every day I see the blessings that God gives me: every time I go to work and ask Him to prepare the way for me, He DOES - in so many ways. I'm afraid of obedience simply because I'm afraid of what He'll ask me to give up. I know in my head that the blessings of obedience FAR outweigh what I'm afraid of losing..but it's at times difficult to transfer that knowledge to the feeling of the heart that precludes action. Thank you, and I love the hamster cozies! lol! ~ Hilary

  9. When I was little our teacher explained obedience to God like this: He is so much wiser than we are, and He wants to protect us from so many things that would harm us even though we may not realize the danger.

That's how obedience came to mean to me a guide from a loving God rather than a standard we fall short of.

Thank you for inviting us to meditate on this with you, Tisha.
