Creamy Homemade Ice Cream

One of my favorite childhood memories was helping my mom make homemade ice cream. I always got to add the salt and the ice to the machine. This was always a must have at all our summer holiday events. So with summer arriving in a few weeks and the 4th of July upon us, I wanted to share my recipe for homemade ice cream. The reason I like it so much is because it is creamier than most recipes. Plus when you freeze it, it doesn't turn to ice, but stays creamy. I hope you enjoy it too. Let me know how yours turned out!

Creamy Vanilla Homemade Ice Cream

3 cups whole milk
4 cups whipping cream
2 cups half and half
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix together until sugar has dissolved. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Freeze as directed by your ice cream machine.

You can also add some fruit. Add after the mixture has been in the refrigerator:
Strawberry: Add 5 cups of pureed strawberries.
Banana: Add 3 1/2 cups of mashed bananas.
Peach: Add 5 cups of pureed peaches.
