My Precious Pet Series: Lucy the Hedgehog

As you know I love my animals and they are a lot of inspiration behind my crafts. So, I am going to do a series called "My Precious Pets", each telling the story of each pet. I hope you come to love these guys as much as I do...
Lucy the Hedgehog
     Lucy running around her playpen
Lucy came to us when she was 8wks old in March. I'm not sure of her color. She seems to have darkened since she has gotten older. She is lighter than Spike and is more brown than grey. She was a tiny ball of spines. Her personality was not the greatest. She stayed in a ball most of the time, popping and hissing at the slightest movement. She was and still is a very tempramental. I didn't think we were ever going to get her tame enough to enjoy handling her.
Digging around in her Cozy Sak
I'm thankful for my Cozy Saks or we wouldn't have been able to handle this little girl. She had attitude and it was bad. I couldn't just reach in and pick her up, so I used a small litter scooper. I would then place her in a Cozy Sak and let her sit in my lap, getting use to my sent. Eventually I would brush her back, in whcih her response was a hiss and pop. After a few months of regular handling, I am able to reach in her cage, scoop her up, and hold her. She still hisses and sometimes pops, but she doesn't ball up as much. To me that is when they are hard to handle because their spikes stand straight out. When I get poked by their spikes it makes my skin itch for a little while.

     Drying off after a bath
Occassionally, I give her a bath in the sink. I was surprised to find that she likes bathing. She is cleaner of the two hedgehogs, always using her litter box.

     A little grumpy today
"Will a worm cheer you up?"
Lucy spends most of her days sleeping, digging, and eating. She loves her food (especially freeze dried meal worm treats). She is very fat, about twice the size of our other hedgehog. She can still ball up completely though. I put her in her Run-About ball, but she only runs a few minutes. I've also bought her a wheel and she won't use it. If I put her in her playpen she runs around a few minutes, visits the litter box, and then curls up to sleep.

     "Yummm! Lip smacking good"
Little Miss Attitude is a awesome pet even with her grumpy demeanor. I like just having her sit in my lap. I put her face to mine and she licks my nose (hoggie kisses). When I spend a lot of time on the computer, I usually place her in a Cozy Sak and sit her on my desk. She comes out occassionally to investigate her surroundings, but mostly curls up and goes to sleep. I always enjoy seeing her looking out of Sak with that adorable little sleepy face. She's my little Puj-Puj and I wouldn't trade her for anything.
